If you’ve got information that people want or need, then one great way to make some extra money is with a newsletter.  Newsletters are one of my favorite potential income sources because they provide the opportunity for a very stable income stream compared to most of the other potential income streams I have discussed.

On the other hand, a newsletter also requires consistent effort, expecially if you are going to produce a newsletter that goes out daily, such as a stock market newsletter that provides information about trading opportunities.  Furthermore, there is consistent turnover among newsletter subscribers, so you’ll also need to market your newsletter consistently.

Therefore, producing a newsletter is far from being a passive income stream.  However, unless you intend to advertise, your overhead can be quite low.  All you really need is your computer and the programs which you will use to produce and deliver your newsletter.

The online newsletter service I use is Aweber.  Aweber provides you with templates for your newsletter sign up forms (these are for free newsletters to grab the interest of your prospects), and then they also provide you with templates for the newsletter itself.  Or, you can simply just attach your content to an email that you will deliver through Aweber.

Typically, when you are offering a paid newsletter, you’ll need a way to collect the money from your subscribers online.  I use Paypal to set up the “subscribe now” button on my website.  Paypal then collects the necessary credit card information from your subscriber, and then draws on that each billing cycle automatically, until your client unsubscribes.  The process is very automated, and once you get up and running, it runs very smoothly.

Believe it or not, in most niches online, there is demand for a newsletter.  Naturally, people will likely pay less to learn how to plant and grow a garden than they will to learn how to make money in the stock market, but there is always opportunity to generate some income with a newsletter.

In some niches, it will pay to offer a free newsletter as a means of obtaining an email address from a prospect to whom you can target market with other premium offers and content.

The bottom line is that if you can offer valuable information to a group of people who are willing to pay good money for that information, you can turn your newsletter business into a full time gig.  There are actually numerous people in the financial world who do this, and are paid quite well.
